Lonnie Wilhite

Hi,

My name is Lonnie Wilhite. I am from Roswell, NM. I attended UNM to study civil engineering and most recently graduated with a B.S. of Civil Engineering this past spring. I am most interested in micromobility to bring accessible transportation to everyone. To do so, it is important to understand the human factors surrounding how riders of the e-scooter/e-bike interact with the multimodal environment. These questions could include but are not limited to: How does psychological measures influence e-scooter ridership for first mile/last mile trips? How are stress levels impacted when riders interact with other vulnerable road users, especially pedestrians? How do the stress levels compare between e-scooter ridership on sidewalk paths vs. roadways? How does peer pressure affect stress and decision making for riders? These questions are important for further understanding of human behavior to identify the most common areas where collisions are likely to occur.

I am very passionate about micromobility and active transportation. In the future, I would like to solve safety issues surrounding these modes of transportation. During my time working for the CPBS, I have gained valuable experience in understanding human factors with physiological, cognitive and physical measures. This experience will be beneficial to me as I begin my career as a Civil Engineer because I will be able to ensure anything I design will be accessible and safe for everyone. I recently purchased a bike and am very excited to bike to work every day.

Some of my hobbies include riding bikes, going for walks in nature, playing basketball, and putting together legos. These activities bring me peace and joy when things become difficult.

I am very excited about the future and can’t wait to start solving the world problems that come my way. I am also excited to see where everyone’s research and development leads!
